How to Appeal a Criminal Conviction (Former DA Explains)

Wrongly convicted of a crime? In this video, we explain the option for filing an appeal of the criminal conviction. The clock starts ticking the moment the court pronounces judgement. There are very strict deadlines and timelines for when to appeal. So it is important to act fast. One also must understand that an appeal is not simply a retrial of the case in another court. Rather, the appellate court looks to see whether there was some legal error at trial such that the defendant did not get a fair trial. Common grounds for criminal appeals in California include ineffective assistance of counsel, prosecutorial misconduct, failure to disclose exculpatory evidence, and erroneous admission or exclusion of evidence by the trial court judge.
