An earthquake shook southwestern British Columbia on Tuesday night. It took place just off Sidney on Vancouver Island. The U.S. Geological Survey reported it as a 4.8-magnitude quake, while it registered as 4.3 at Earthquakes Canada. According to the National Geological Survey, the epicentre was 19 kilometres northeast of Victoria. No tsunami alert was issued. The quake shook beds and rattled dishes, waking people across the Lower Mainland. There were no immediate reports of damage, but it was strong enough to shake houses. Victoria residents reported the quake lasted up to 10 seconds. The quake depth was 50.6 kilometres, and its location was 48.580°N, 123.273°W, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
