Ken Smith: As a white guy, let me state "black lives matter" shows a really serious problem. Racism will always be with us as a human failing like theft and robbery. The laws and systems of a nation should represent the best of what its citizens are and not the worst. A police department that is racist is an afront to every good cop in the nation and its citizens at large. That the (white) public seems to have tolerated it is really an outrage and it falls to this generation of (mostly white) leaders and citizens to put this behind us.
