In which John discusses the complicated reasons why the United States spends so much more on health care than any other country in the world, and along the way reveals some surprising information, including that Americans spend more of their tax dollars on public health care than people in Canada, the UK, or Australia. Who's at fault? Insurance companies? Drug companies? Malpractice lawyers? Hospitals? Or is it more complicated than a simple blame game? (Hint: It's that one.) For a much more thorough examination of health care expenses in America, I recommend this series at The Incidental Economist: http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/what-makes-the-us-health-care-system-so-expensive-introduction/ The Commonwealth Fund's Study of Health Care Prices in the US: http://www.commonwealthfund.org/~/media/Files/Publications/Issue%20Brief/2012/May/1595_Squires_explaining_high_hlt_care_spending_intl_brief.pdf Some of the stats in this video also come from this New York Times story: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/02/health/colonoscopies-explain-why-us-leads-the-world-in-health-expenditures.html?pagewanted=all This is the first part in what will be a periodic series on health care costs and reforms leading up to the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, in 2014.
Patrice Marie: ...... YOUR (really) ...... "OKAY" .... IN ANY "HEALTHCARE" SYSTEM ......
AS LONG AS YOU'RE (BASICALLY) HEALTHY!
Roy Bean: https://www.gofundme.com/w9svyc-medicare
Josh Ross: This is because of slightly overpowered free markets imo. But i would rather spend more for healthcare and motivate the doctors in this country to further innovations in the medical field. Theres a sweet spot between companies overpricing medical items and making themselves stupid rich, and companies pricing medical items high so they can keep innovating in that area. Maybe I’m wrong, its probably more complicated than this, but if im right, i think your approaching the debate from the wrong side.
Nick Sixx: "American HealthOut CareComes"
Screw Loose: You should do a new video on this to see if we are still as bad 5 years later, or if we are worse, and maybe on on the rare chance better in 2018.
Frank Lopez: It is a simple solution. It’s greed man it’s that easy!
Frank Lopez: Shame on America shame shame shame. A country that does not have affordable healthcare is a not a great country, if you think America is the best your a stupid, ignorant person. Even Cuba has a better healthcare system. This system is not hard to fix, it’s just a greedy vial, cruel, system. If I ever need something serious treatment I’ll leave to the country I was born in and also has better service and same technology, Colombia. Again, shame on greedy pharma, hospitals, insurance companies doctors
And above all the is dam government that does nothing !!!!You are all demons.
Rustedblade: Some people make intelligence look easy, you do it with spunk
Hadinos Sanosam: 1:43 "richer than all of these countries"...
Per capita, which makes the most sense here, Switzerland is either 2nd in the world (nominal, and the US is not first) or 4 places ahead of the US (purchasing power). Do your research or be clearer.
Weaver: AMERICA A COUNTRY OF 340 MILLIONS AND LOTS OF CRIME AND POVERTY. PERIOD
Weaver: AMERICA A COUNTRY OF 340 MILLIONS AND 180 IN POVERTY AND BELOW THE POVERTY LINE. PERIOD

Rat In The Foxhole: let’s create more actual health care monopolies through government contracts
Aaron Garrett: I know why it’s because it’s a fucking scam and American politicians are corrupt as they get and doctors are corrupt it’s all about fucking the working man I my self been to doctor had to see 5 stupid ass doctors before finally after all that stupid shit the fifth one had to treat me what a fucking joke
Repeal 16: Doctors are greedy crooks who would not earn more than a roofer without lobying and insurance. Get jewery out of government.
daniele one: The US richer than Switzerland, since when.
Elizabeth Jackson: I had a colonoscopy, in the US. With private insurance from my husband’s employer, for $125. Original cost $3,610.19. Contrast to that, I take a medication that Johnson & Johnson gives to me free of cost 🤷🏼♀️. They waive 10k a year in a medication that saves my life.
DMO 4scho: We have a big buisness problem.
TehFoamy: "Now we are richer than all of these countries so it makes sense that we should spend a little more on health care"
I mean, the U.S. as a whole makes more money than those countries, but that number is skewed by the top 1 percent. It highlights the frighteningly wide gap of income inequality between corporate billionaires and people who have to work two full-time jobs just to afford basic living expenses. People don't pay more for health care simply because they make more money than people in other countries, because a lot of them don't.
